A few months ago Nick Pujic (Flymaxfilms, Canadian Fly Fisher) approached me to develop a 12" swimming fly for musky. At this point I already had a 9"double-jointed fly that I developed for pike. I used this as a starting point. After a few prototypes I came up with a fly that worked in the test tank (bathtub) and now needed to be field tested. That's where Nick and he's buddies Naoto Aoki and Glen Hales step back into the picture. These boys really love to fly-fish for muskie. Right off the bat these flies were showing signs I was on the right track. Soon after, Nick had some close encounters with some big Niagara muskie as well as a twelve fish day filming an upcoming Flymax episode on river muskie. In the meantime I spent two successful days fishing with Glen Hales in the Belleville area and a couple of rewarding days at Lake St. Claire. All up it had been a great year for muskie and an awesome start for my Swimtrue Double Jointed Muskie fly. Then I received an email photo from Nick. Now that's a Muskie!! A 52" BRUTE!!! I'm very proud to say it was fooled using one of my flies. For the whole story on that battle you'll have to wait for Nick to give you the scoop; one worth waiting for I bet!
